The hut is set on the owner’s farm among apple and oak trees. It’s very well appointed inside, with a rainfall shower, Nespresso coffee machine and underfloor heating. The decor is subtly nautical, reflecting the location close to the coastal town of Lymington.

Y-Knot

Best for nautical sorts

  • Area: Lymington
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Pet friendly: No
  • Kids permitted: Age 4 plus
  • Parking: Yes

This one puts a completely different slant on glamping in Hampshire. It’s a boat moored at well-heeled Lymington Yacht Haven, and it only takes quarter-of-an-hour to walk into the delightful town centre from here.

The 42 foot cruiser has two bedrooms, one master and a twin. So it’s ideal for families or couples. Everything you’d expect to find in a holiday home is here, including hot and cold running water, central heating and a well kitted out kitchen. A truly unique place to stay in one of my favourite New Forest locations.

Mudeford Sandbank Beach Hut

Mudeford Sandbank Beach Hut

Best for living on the beach

  • Area: Christchurch
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Bathrooms: Shared
  • Pet friendly: Yes
  • Kids permitted: Yes
  • Parking: No – Park at Hengistbury Head car park & walk, cycle or take the land train around 1 mile to Mudeford Sandbank

This one’s something of a wild card when it comes to glamping sites in the New Forest. While Christchurch town centre is just outside the forest, you can reach it in a matter of minutes from here. Christchurch adjoins Bournemouth, and Mudeford Spit, or sandbank, or Hengistbury Head lies somewhere between the two.

Book one of the beach huts here (which are much sought-after and thus eye-wateringly expensive to buy) and you can stay right on the beach. It’s pretty much off-grid, and you’ll need to use the communal bathroom block. There is one restaurant, the Beach House, and you can also take a short hop on the ferry to reach Mudeford Quay, where you’ll find a cafe, a restaurant, a pub and a few shops.

These overnight beach huts are a bucket list place to stay that everyone should experience at least once in a lifetime. As for the New Forest, it’s only a short drive from here. No cars are permitted on the sandbank itself, but you can park about a mile away (see above).

This beach hut is cleverly fitted out and offers a kitchen, beds for up to four, a deck and stunning sea views. Every time I cycle here I end up taking yet more photos of these pretty beach huts – see if you can resist!

Best for a woodland setting

  • Area: New Milton
  • Sleeps: 6
  • Bathrooms: 2
  • Pet friendly: Yes – up to 2 dogs any size
  • Kids permitted: Yes
  • Parking: Yes

Why book New Forest pods offering limited privacy when you could spread out on a 12 acre woodland site? This cabin in the New Milton area (it’s also near Christchurch) sleeps six in three bedrooms. So there’s plenty of space inside too.

Here you can expect Egyptian cotton linen, a spacious outdoor deck, super fast WiFi, a fire pit, woodland views and a shed for bike storage. The wooden interior lends warmth, while floor to ceiling windows flood the cabin with natural light.
